Tetric EvoCeram: more than 100 million restorations document success
Tetric EvoCeram was introduced as a universal anterior and posterior composite 10 years ago. Since then, more than 100 million restorations have been successfully placed with Tetric Evo products all over the world. Clinical data impressively underline their success. This is reason enough for Ivoclar Vivadent to celebrate this 10-year anniversary.
Since its introduction in 2004, Tetric EvoCeram has made history. To date, the universal composite and subsequent variants have been used in more than a hundred million restorations throughout the world. The success of this product is documented by an impressive amount of data.
Consistent further development
At the time, Tetric EvoCeram was launched as the successor product to Tetric Ceram, a medium-viscosity composite. As evolution is a continuous process, Ivoclar Vivadent soon began to add additional variants to the product. In 2007, the flowable variant Tetric EvoFlow was introduced, followed by Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill in 2011. Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Filll is a mouldable posterior composite that can be applied in single increments of up to 4 millimetres due to the highly reactive, patented photoinitiator Ivocerin. Compared with conventional initiators, Ivocerin is considerably more reactive and, as a result, allows large increments to be polymerized efficiently.
The Tetric Evo products are known for their success. In two consecutive years – 2013 and 2014 – the renowned test institute "The Dental Advisor" selected Tetric EvoCeram as "Top Long Term Performer Composite". In the 8-year study conducted by the Dental Advisor, Tetric EvoCeram received the highest possible rating: 5 stars. Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill was also awarded the "gold medal" twice consecutively for being the "Top Bulk Fill Composite". In an internal 10-year study, the failure rate of Tetric EvoCeram was zero per cent, in an external 10-year study the failure rate was 1.9 per cent and in an external 8-year study the failure rate was 0.5 per cent. To put these results into perspective, a comprehensive review of clinical studies has shown that the average failure rate of composite restorations is 2.2 per cent.*
"The name Tetric stands for continuous evolution," says Dr Laurent Schenck, Marketing Director Clinical, at Ivoclar Vivadent. "For that reason, we consistently further develop these products. Their resounding success is a continuous source of motivation for us. Tetric Evo will continue to impress users and proceed on its path of success."
Ivoclar Vivadent is celebrating the round-number anniversary with a campaign. Under the heading "Celebrating 10 Years of Tetric Evolution", the company is celebrating the anniversary of this successful product line and its continuous further development. Special offers will be available to users from October 2014 to March 2015. Additionally, a Scientific Report and a Casebook sharing a number of success stories will be published shortly.
