The overall esthetic result of an all-ceramic restoration is determined by the interplay of the shades of the preparation, the restoration and the cementation material. The optical influence of the preparation shade on the final results must not be underestimated during the fabrication of highly esthetic restorations. Especially with severely discoloured preparations or non-tooth-shaded build-ups, this is of utmost importance.
The IPS e.max Shade Selection Wheel helps you to select the suitable block / ingot on the basis of
• the desired tooth shade and
• the determined stump shade
Move Tab 1 along the wheel until the desired tooth shade (determined with the A-D shade guide) appears in the red bar.
Move Tab 2 along the wheel until the determined stump shade (according to the IPS Natural Die Material shade guide) appears in the red bar.
The result field shows the suitable blocks/ingots.
The translucency level (e.g. HT, LT) is selected in accordance with the indication and the desired processing technique (cut-back, staining, layering technique).
For small restorations that mainly replace the enamel of the natural tooth ( veneers, inlays), a translucent material is recommended.
For restorations with thicker layers, a lower translucency prevents a loss in brightness (greying).
The recommendations correlate with the preparation guidelines and the minimum thickness of the restoration.
